  Matt Rogers
Head Coach

Matt Rogers enters his seventh season at the helm of the Maryville University men’s basketball program.

After just three years as head coach, Rogers saw his squad go from seventh place in 2001-02 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) to a conference championship in 2003-04. His 2003-04 squad finished the season with a 12-2 record in conference play and earned only the second NCAA post-season tournament berth in school history. Rogers' squad continued to build on that success by capturing the 2006 SLIAC Tournament Championship, earning another NCAA Division III Tournament berth and posting an 18-9 overall record and 11-3 in the SLIAC.

In addition to the team's success, Rogers had three players named All-SLIAC in 2005-06, including First Team selection, Ben Hebl. Rogers, himself, was named the conference's Coach of the Year in 2005-06 and 2003-04, and in 2003-04 three of his players received conference honors, including Stephen Bash, who was named both Player of the

Year and Newcomer of the Year. Bash also earned First Team All-Region honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), while teammate Ryan Klein was awarded Third Team Academic All-District honors by CoSIDA.

Prior to taking over the Saints program, Rogers served as the head boy’s basketball coach for one year and assistant boy’s basketball coach for two years at Whitfield School in St. Louis. During his tenure at Whitfield, the boy’s basketball team compiled a record of 70-16, including a state championship, district championship and two undefeated conference championships.

Rogers coaching experience also includes one year at St. Ambrose University (IA), in which the Fighting Bees advanced to the NAIA Division II National Tournament.

Rogers earned his bachelor’s degree in English from Coe College (IA) in 1997. He also played two seasons on the Kohawks men’s basketball squad. Prior to playing at Coe, Rogers was a member of the boy’s basketball team at Lena-Winslow High School in northern Illinois.

Rogers’ teams are known for their intense defensive play and aggressive, up-tempo fast breaking offense. He has a strong mix of players, who bring experience, culture and ability from different parts of the country.

The Saints travel annually throughout the Midwest and the country playing one of the toughest non-conference schedules in NCAA Division III. In 2005-06 Rogers and his squad took on NCAA Division I member, St. Louis University, in an exhibition game, while their regular season schedule included several national powerhouses from NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Rogers and his wife, Karen, live in Maryland Heights, Mo.
